The Blood Group Diet is entirely attributable to the work conducted by by Dr P. D’Adamo. This “diet”
is particularly interesting for those people who suffer with food allergies and food intolerance’s. But first it is worth noting the difference between food allergies and food intolerance’s. Food intolerances are something that we never grow out of, since it relates to an intolerance we have for certain foods, and linked to our blood type. Intolerances build up over time and as we get older they become more obvious. On the other hand a food allergy will be painfully obvious, in that you may have an immediate reaction – it may cause you to vomit, have diarrhoea, come out in a rash, or become bloated and uncomfortable.
The way to use The Blood Group Diet, is to initially find out what type of blood is travelling through your veins – if you already know that’s great, otherwise you’ll have to find out. There are lots of ways to find out your blood type:
- Go to your local doctor or health clinic and ask them to do the test
- Join the Red Cross or similar Blood Donation organisation where you live (LINKS)
Then when you know if you’re an ‘O’, ‘A’, ‘B’ or an ‘AB’ you’ll be able to use the Blood Group Diet to best advantage. Having found out your blood type, simply start to read up about the type of foods, which are most
suitable for you. For each blood group, you will find interesting information about the background to each blood group and the foods that:
- Are medicinal – that is they promote balance and health
- Are neutral – neither beneficial nor harmful
- Are foods to avoid – foods that act like poison – we should avoid these
Happy reading, and a word of advice, don’t try and change too much in your diet too quickly. The most effective approach is to start cutting out the poisons and start increasing the medicinal. Good luck!.

BLOOD GROUP O
HISTORY OF THE HUNTER
Blood Group O is the oldest blood group appearing about 40,000BC. They are known as the Hunters
originally hunting and gathering food. Blood Group O have a good digestive tract but are intolerant to dietary and environmental adaptations. They have an overactive immune system.
When stressed the Hunter responds best with intense physical activity – going to the gym, a brisk walk or run, anything that will get them moving.
This blood group requires an efficient metabolism to stay lean and energetic. Blood Group O can donate blood to all blood groups but can only receive blood from another type O. They have no antigens. Anti-A and Anti-B antibodies.

BLOOD GROUP O – Some Additional Notes
- Type Os thrive on physical exercise and animal protein.
- You need lean, chemical-free, organic meats, poultry and fish.
- Balance meat with the appropriate vegetables and fruits to avoid over-acidification. Over-acidification can cause ulcers and irritation of the stomach lining. Blackberries aggravate the digestion.
- If you have ulcers, use bladder wrack (Fucus vesiculious) which kills the ulcer causing bacteria (H. pylori).
- Coffee makes the stomach more acid. Parsley soothes the digestive tract.
- Susceptible to poor blood clotting, IBS, colitis, Crohn’s disease, ulcers, unstable thyroid functions and diabetes.
- To help blood clot, eat kale, collard greens, romaine lettuce, broccoli and spinach, which contains Vitamin
- K.
- Blood loss during surgery and childbirth can be a problem.
- Aspirin can thin the blood and be a trouble.
- Eat cold water fish such as cod, herring and mackerel to aid efficient blood clotting especially if you have IBS, colitis or Crohn’s disease. Cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, mustard greens inhibit thyroid functions. Eat plenty of seafood to stabilise the thyroid.
- Dairy, wheat, corn inhibit production of insulin leading to diabetes.
- Belladonna plants (except tomatoes) cause arthritic conditions and inflammatory reactions in the joints. Sometimes there is chronic deterioration of the bone cartilage (osteoarthritis). Avoid aubergines, potatoes, corn and wheat products to protect the joints.
- Susceptible to viral infections as Type O does not possess any antigens.
- Antibiotics do not kill viruses.
- Susceptible to viral meningitis, chronic sinus infections, plagues cholera, small pox, typhoid, malaria and pulmonary tuberculosis.
- Prone to psoriasis due to eating grains and dairy products.
- Broccoli contains calcium, eat plenty because you will be short of calcium due to not having too many dairy products.
- Asthma, hayfever appear to be specific to Type O because of the lectins in food and pollen. Avoid all the “poisonous” foods.
- If you are pregnant and the father of the baby is A or AB the flu vaccine can be dangerous.
- Avoid the injectable form of the polio vaccine; opt for the oral preparation. If problems occur, take fewer.
- Avoid penicillin-class antibiotics. Avoid sulfa-class drugs. They can cause skin rashes. Avoid macrolideclass antibiotics. They can aggravate bleeding tendencies.

- Antigen B, antibodies A
- Cannot exchange blood with Group A
- Chinese, Japanese and many Asian societies are composed of a high number of Type Bs. Also, traditional Jewish populations are primarily Type B. Type Bs are more flexible tha Os As or Abs. Less vulnerable to many common diseases. If there is balance in your life you make a good survivor.
- You respond to stress with harmony and balance.
- You require moderate exercise that is not fiercely competitive.
- Type B blood constitutes 9% of the population of the USA, and 30 to 40% of all self-made millionaires there are Type B!!!
- There appears to be a direct connection between stress, auto-immune diseases and red meat.
- Type Bs have a high allergy threshold unless they eat the wrong foods.
- Wheat contains a lectin which attaches itself to the insulin receptors.
- Wheat is therefore stored as fat.
- Corn, lentils, sesame seeds and buckwheat cause hypoglycaemia, and weight gain.
- Peanuts affect liver functions.
- Rye contains a lectin, which settles in the vascular systems causing blood disorders and potential strokes,
- Tomatoes are trouble for the digestive tract.

- I’m BLOOD GROUP AB THE ENIGMA Blood Group “AB” is the most recent of all blood groups and is a relatively new group appearing about 900 to 100 years ago. It is the result of the intermingling of blood groups A and B. AB’s have a sensitive digestive tract, but an overly tolerant immune system. They respond best to stress spiritually, with physical verve and creative energy. They are an evolutionary mystery. No antibodies Can accept all blood types, but is rejected by other blood types except another AB Foods that encourage weight gain are red meat, kidney beans, lima beans, seeds, corn, buckwheat, and wheat. Foods that encourage weight loss are tofu, seafood’s, dairy products, green vegetables, kelp and pineapple, which aids the digestion. In general, AB’s have the least problem with allergies Eat a little, and often Stay away from chicken as the chicken lectin irritate the blood and the digestive tract Avoid all cured and smoked foods – they can cause stomach cancer in those with low levels of stomach acid Susceptible to breast cancer, so introduce snails into the diet. Lentils are also an important cancer fighting food as well as tofu. Eat wheat in moderation, and not at all if you are trying to lose weight. Wheat can cause mucus production. Eat plenty of rice instead. Because of the risk of cancer, women should not take conventional HRT, but take instead phytooestrogens Eat nuts and seeds with caution – most inhibit insulin production Eggs are a good source of protein for AB’s Eat peanuts to boost the auto-immune system Pickled condiments can cause cancer Antihistamines can raise the blood pressure Heavy clotting during menstrual periods can be a problem. Keep to the diet Susceptible to cystitis and gall bladder problems Susceptible to respiratory problems, sinus attacks and ear infections.
